fortil wins SNCF Réseau national framework contract for railway signalling studies

fortil Mobility, alongside its partners SYSTRA France and BETA, has been awarded a national framework contract by SNCF Réseau for railway signalling studies, effective June 2025. As a result, this strategic award confirms fortil’s position as a key player in railway engineering in France.

A major national framework contract

Awarded by SNCF Réseau as part of its rail infrastructure regeneration and modernisation programme, this framework contract covers the entire French territory. Specifically, it entrusts fortil Mobility and its partners with the delivery of signalling studies over a 4-year period, with 2 optional additional years.

The consortium stands out through a highly structured organisation. Indeed, each partner acts as the lead contractor for one of the three lots, ensuring clear accountability and optimal scope management.

Services at the heart of railway modernisation

Under this framework, fortil Mobility’s teams are working across the full spectrum of railway signalling studies, from early-stage phases to execution documents:

These assignments are part of the large-scale national rail regeneration programme led by SNCF Réseau. This unprecedented investment plan aims to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of infrastructure for decades to come.

Technical expertise recognised by SNCF Réseau

This selection rewards years of investment in developing advanced railway systems engineering capabilities. In particular, fortil Mobility demonstrated its ability to meet SNCF Réseau’s demanding technical and organisational requirements. This applies notably to safety, methodological rigour, and complex project management at national scale.

Furthermore, the formation of a consortium with SYSTRA France and BETA — two established names in the rail sector — reflects fortil’s capacity to build strategic alliances. Together, we deliver a comprehensive offer covering all competencies required across the three lots.

“We are very proud of this award, which confirms the recognition of our expertise in railway signalling. It will allow us to durably strengthen our partnership with SNCF Réseau and actively contribute to the modernisation of the French railway network.”

Fabrice Bruni, Key Account Manager, fortil Mobility

A contract shaping the future of the French rail network

Railway signalling is the nervous system of the network. Its reliability directly determines punctuality, capacity, and operational safety. Therefore, by entrusting fortil and its partners with these critical studies, SNCF Réseau is drawing on complementary and proven expertise to accelerate the national network’s transformation.

This framework contract comes in a context of historic investment in French rail. It is driven by the State-SNCF Performance Contract, the Grand Plan de Modernisation du Réseau (GPMR), and the national Network Master Plan. Signalling is a major focus of this programme, notably through the gradual deployment of the ETCS (European Train Control System) on high-speed and conventional lines.

Through this contract, fortil Mobility will consolidate its expertise on key national projects, while contributing to the goal of doubling rail’s share of passenger travel by 2030.
